P R O J E C T N E W S S P R I N G / S U M M E R 2 0 2 6 Quw'tsun Valley Hospital Quw'utsun Hulitun‑ew't‑hw With construction now 90% complete, Quw'utsun Valley Hospital / Quw'utsun Hulitun‑ew't‑hw is entering its final phase. The hospital remains on schedule and on budget, with substantial completion expected later this year. Patient care is expected to begin in late spring 2027. Key clinical areas such as Emergency, Medical Imaging, Ambulatory Care and Mental Health are nearing completion, with access to these spaces now restricted to support infection prevention and control measures. Outside the building, site work continues with landscaping, paving and exterior cladding progressing steadily. Inside, crews are finalizing interior finishes and commissioning mechanical and electrical systems. Quw'utsun Valley Hospital | Quw'utsun Hulitun-ew't-hw is being built on the unceded traditional territory of Cowichan Tribes. Building for Healthy Communities in Cowichan Patient elevators are now operational and are supporting construction activities. Work is focused on completing the community hall and "reach out" building; spaces that will support community connection and care delivery. As a cornerstone of broader efforts to strengthen the health system across the Cowichan Valley, the new hospital will improve acute care by: Expanding access to modern health care spaces and updated equipment Improving patient flow and reducing wait times Enhancing emergency, mental health & substance use care, surgical capacity, pediatric services and more Supporting culturally safe care; and Providing a facility that is more environmentally sustainable, and able to grow with the community.
